What about Existing Systems?

Evolution of a Universal Client

A very significant impact of the development of the Intranet is the push to provide access to all corporate and organisational data, information and resources through a common interface. This interface is the World Wide Web browser.

This does, however, require a major rethink of the way corporate data is stored and managed. Lots of work has to be done to provide mechanisms to allow access to hitherto closed systems from the browser. The term Middleware has been created to describe the intermediate systems necessary to provide browser access to corporate systems.
